History in Art" Exhibit
Turkish Friends hosted an art exhibit "History in Art" at the Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall in Istanbul, during March 1-14, 2003.
According to Tomur Atagök who organized the exhibit on behalf of Turkish Friends, "The artists who came together at the 'History in Art' exhibit, have either been influenced by Anatolian myths and history at some point in their creative lives or they have made contact with the history of Anatolian life, starting with fundamental concepts such as man, life, art and time. At a time when center and peripheries of all types of power and identity and differences are being debated within the framework of globalization, history has formed the foundations of the art of these artists who have reached out for their roots.
Turkish Friends gratefully acknowledge the artists Mehmet Aksoy, Tomur Atagök, Belkis Balpinar,Güngör Güner, Can Goknil, Balkan Naci Islimyeli, Gönül Nuhoglu, Yusuf Taktak, Yesim Tetik and Zerrin Tulug who contributed to the exhibit, to Tomur Atagök, who organized the exhibit and to the Cultural Affairs Department of the City of Istanbul, who hosted the exhibit.
